Can I Be Immune from Heartburn?

Heartburn is a painful condition that can be brought about by many factors. It could be a serious affliction or from normal human activities such as eating. Though it is a relatively harmless condition, the symptoms of it cause heartburn to be often mistaken for a more serious malady. In fact, many instances wherein a person is brought in for an emergency treatment mistaking heartburn as a serious case. Though there are people that are immune to the condition as compared to others, it does not spare anyone. Therefore, no one is immune from the painful condition. However, there are ways to keep you from having heartburn, if you do not have any other diseases that cause it.

First is take inventory of the food that you normally eat. Fatty and fried foods are considered as culprits in developing heartburn. If you have a liking for these kinds of foods, better stay away from them if you do not want to have the condition. Citrus fruits are also known to cause heartburn. This is because heartburn is caused by stomach acids going back up the esophagus. Citrus fruits are known to have high acid contents. Taking in too many can cause excessive acids to form in your stomach, which can eventually reflux and cause heartburn.

Avoiding spicy foods and alcohol should also be done if you do not want to experience the condition. Alcohol suppresses the mouth’s ability to produce saliva, which has anti acid properties. At the same time, the stomach is promoted to produce more acids due to smoking. The combination of these two actions causes an excess of stomach acids, which again, could lead to heartburn. If you do not want to have this painful condition, stay way from these causative factors.

Since heartburn is comparatively harmless and is not permanent, most people who have it tend to ignore the condition. However, if it gets chronic or become too discomforting, then perhaps it is better to consult a medical practitioner. Some heartburn can be a sign of a serious ailment or pregnancy. Knowing its cause will enable a person to deal with it better.
