Heartburn Medication: Things to Do If You Are Suffering from Heartburn


Heartburn is a common disease experienced mostly by people with high volume of acids released by their body to their stomach. It is described as a disease that is characterized by a painful and burning sensation in one’s esophagus. What causes the burning sensation is that the acid from the stomach is released and caused refluxes to the chest, throat and esophagus.

Heartburn is seen as a symptom for gastroesophageal reflux disease and chronic cough. Although you can never actually forecast when will you be suffering from heartburn attack, you can at least prevent it from happening by knowing its causes and doing things to avoid it.

Here are some things to consider if you are one of the millions out there suffering from heartburn disease. You may consider these as heartburn prevention or as a heartburn treatment or medication:
1. Avoid eating foods that cause excess acids to your stomach.
2. Too much drinking alcohol and smoking will expose you to the risk of heartburn attack. As much as possible, you should stay away from this lifestyle.
3. Eating too much food during dinner and immediately going to bed is a bad idea. It increases the risk of heartburn attack. The stomach is still working digesting foods and releasing acids. You should avoid this practice and change your habit.
4. Sleeping position is also one of the factors. Keep your upper body more elevated than your entire lower body. Through this, there is a less chance to have heartburn while sleeping.
5. There are medicines that are available over the counter to ease pain and burning sensation. It can give you immediate aid and relief. Some of these medicines are Antacids, Sodium bicarbonate and Alginates.
6. Avoid fatty foods, chocolates and spicy foods as these can increase the risk of heartburns.

Another great remedy if you are experiencing heartburn symptoms is to take a tablespoon of vinegar to alleviate the effects of heartburn. All you need to do is sit up straight, drink water and gulp in a tablespoon of vinegar to relieve the pain. You can also add up mint in order for you to appease the sour flavor of the vinegar. This can effectively reduce and may totally wipe out the pain caused by heartburn.
