Heartburn is a very painful experience. The gastric acids that are regurgitating back up the esophagus brings with it a burning sensation and intense pain in the chest that is often mistaken for a heart attack. The patient is not to be blamed though. The pain associated with heartburn becomes so intense, as to create the impression that he is having a more serious condition. However, heartburn in itself is quite harmless except for the pain, and is not permanent. It comes and goes on its own and is relieved by an over the counter medication, unless it is a symptom of a more serious disease.
Gas symptoms causes belching and an unpleasant discomfort in the stomach. Everyone gets a heartburn and gas symptoms every now and then. It is caused by eating too much, consumption of fatty and spicy foods, devouring your food too fast or by over consumption of alcohol and cigarettes. These and other such behaviors can cause gas accumulation in the stomach and heartburn.
Relief from the discomforting symptoms is often remedied by a change in eating habits and lifestyle. Avoidance of gas causing foods or chewing your food well does much to avoid having the conditions. Some foods that are known for causing excess gas are broccoli, cauliflower, dairy products, beans, Brussels sprouts and bran. Simethicone is the generic name of the drug that is commonly used for treating gas symptoms. It works by combining individual gas bubbles in the stomach. Larger bubbles pass more quickly out of the digestive system and relieve a person through belching or passing of flatus.
Maintaining digestive health through the use of herbal alternative medicines is also advised in some quarters. The benefits of such treatments have been proven by so many that it is now being used by an increasing number of people. Different localities also have their own home grown methods of curing the condition and it is not unusual to find a treatment that is not known by medical authorities. Although some of these treatments are really effective, it is still best to consult with a doctor before having any.
